Kazakhstan Readies to Celebrate the Astana Day on July 6Astana, Kazakhstan’s dazzling capital, prepares to celebrate its 14th anniversary on July 6 with a great variety of events to be held during the week prior to the main celebration day.

The Kazakh capital has progressed greatly since the Parliament agreed to President Nazarbayev’s proposal to move the capital in 1994 and today belongs to one of the most unique cities in the world. As one of the few metropolis built chiefly in the 21st century, it is also among the world’s youngest capitals.

Astana’s 14th birthday is highly anticipated not only by residents of the city but every citizen of Kazakhstan. The event schedule promises a lot of amazing surprises and discoveries.

“The celebration traditionally starts with the opening of the “Astana” III International Festival of action films, organized by the famous Kazakhstan-born filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov,” the organizing committee was quoted as saying. This year a Cesar Award-winning French actor Vincent Cassel, an English actor Dominic Cooper, an American film and television producer Jim Lemley and other prominent figures in the film industry will be among the festival invitees.

One of the most widely anticipated events is a performance of the world famous Cirque du Soleil troupe that will take place from 4 to 6 July at the Sports Palace “Kazakhstan”.

Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment.” Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and located in the inner-city area of Saint-Michel, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Lalibert? and Daniel Gauthier. The shows employ approximately 4,000 people from over 40 countries, which allows giving performances in different parts of the world at once. A 19-year-old from Pavlodar Roman Karpovich, who signed an annual contract with the company, will perform on the stage in Astana.

The circus arts will be performed from 1 to 8 July, as the new season of the International Circus Festival “Echoes of Asia” kicks off in Astana. The winners and laureates of the world’s festivals will take part in the festival. Among them will be the past masters, representatives of circus dynasty: the tightrope walkers and gutta-percha girl from Mongolia and China, along with trapeze artists from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Another remarkable event of the Astana celebrations will be the performance of the U.S contemporary ballet Company E troupe. Company E is part of the Washington City Dance Ensemble under the direction of Paul Gordon Emerson. A characteristic feature of each group is energy, passion, excellent technology and innovation. By mixing the excellent technique and physical training of dancers with energy, emotion and humour, the City Dance Ensemble founder and art director Emerson manages to create shows full of integrity, feelings and life.

Music of almost all the Turkic peoples will be performed at the “Astana -Arkau” festival. The guests and residents of Astana will hear the genres that are appreciated and admired by people both in the East and West, including shamanic chants, virtuoso compositions for khomus (shan-kobyz), throat singing, and epic instrumental compositions, song lyrics of the Turks of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, South Caucasus and Anatolia, the Volga and Siberia.

The grand opening of the nomadic civilization festival titled “Astana through the millennium” is to take place on June 29, while the festival itself is scheduled for July 4-7. The guests will be able to visit a makeshift nomadic city and view gunsmiths, weavers, hunters and jewellers in the streets.

Therewith, international equestrian competitions for the World Cup and the Kazakh President’s Cup are to be held at “Kazanat” racetrack. Riders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and India will participate in the competitions.

On July 5, one of the world-known modern performers of classics – Korean singer Sumi Jo will perform in Astana at the “Kazakhstan” Central Concert Hall stage. An unforgettable ice show of Ilia Averbukh from Russia, as well as the benefit performance of the Russian actor Sergei Makovetsky, and the first International Festival of the Club of Cheerful and Witty will take place in Astana.

The celebration of Kazakh capital’s 14th anniversary will be traditionally completed with a gala concert with the participation of such popular groups and headline performers from Kazakhstan and abroad as “Metiss”, “Orda”, “Serebro”, Yerbolat, Makpal Issabekova, Nyusha, Timati, GeeGun, Ivan Dorn, Dan Balan, and Kelly Rowland.
