The Lord Mayor of the City of London to visit Kazakhstan

The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman David Wootton will visit Kazakhstan on 26-30 June.
The main purpose of The Lord Mayor’s visit is to promote the City of London as the world’s leading International Financial Centre as well as promoting UK Financial and Business Services. The Lord Mayor also aims to assist in the development of greater trade and investment between the two countries and to promote English Law within the region, the press service of the UK Embassy in Kazakhstan.
In Almaty, The Lord Mayor will focus on sharing experience and expertise with Almaty in its aim to become a Regional Financial Centre during a roundtable chaired by Chingiz Kanapyanov, Deputy Chairman at Committee for the Regional Financial Center of Almaty (RFCA), National Bank of Kazakhstan. He will also promote the expertise and experience of the City of London in the context of Kazakhstan’s forthcoming People’s IPO programme and the floating of shares in several national companies. During his stay in Almaty, The Lord Mayor will meet with the Almaty City Akim, Mr Akhmetzhan Yesimov and the Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Mr Grigory Marchenko.
The Lord Mayor will then travel to Astana, focussing on UK work with Kazakhstan in the Education and Training Sector and supporting development of the special economic zone. The Lord Mayor will open the new BG Centre for Energy and Research at Nazarbayev University and address education professionals at a reception in partnership with University College London. He will also emphasise the benefits of the UK rule of law, and good corporate governance in terms of establishing and sustaining a strong investment and business climate at a roundtable lead by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Kairat Kelimbetov. The Lord Mayor will make several calls on important government officials, including the Astana City Akim, Mr Imangali Tasmagambetov, Chairman of Samruk Kazyna, Mr Umirzak Shukeyev and the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
