Head of Kazakhstan's border service resigns after tragedy on border postThe head of the Border Service of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee Nurzhan Myrzaliyev resigned after the tragedy on Arkankergen border post, chief military prosecutor Yergali Merzadinov told journalists on Wednesday, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

“[Myrzaliev] submitted a request to the president to release him from his post,” Merzadinov said.

On May 30 a fire took place on Arkankergen border post on Kazakh-Chinese border. In summer 15 frontier guards serve at this post. About 15 corpses were founded at the scene including 14 border guards and a hunter from the nearby hunting ground located near the post. The fifteenth border guard was found alive near the post. Later the alive border guard Vladislav Chelakh confessed that he had killed his colleagues when they were asleep, the Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office reported. Chelakh named the reason of killing his colleagues due to internal conflicts and clouding of consciousness.

Meanwhile, following a personal meeting with Vladislav Chelakh, his mother told journalists that he has not killed anyone quoting Chelakh’s words.

Moreover, Merzadinov added that the management of regional border detachments and border commandant’s office were resigned following an official investigation .

Kazakhstan plans to attract foreign specialists to identify dead guards’ remains

Kazakhstan can attract foreign specialists to identify remains of border guards killed on Arkankergen border post on Kazakh-Chinese border, chief military prosecutor Yergali Merzadinov told journalists on Wednesday, Kazinform reported.

“The work on identifying three bodies is underway. We do not exclude that foreign experts can be attracted to this work,” Merzadinov said.

Chelakh named the reason of killing his colleagues due to internal conflicts and clouding of consciousness.

The corpses of other 12 people have been identified.

The border guard suspected of killing 15 people on the Kazakh-Chinese border denies the presence of collaborators and accomplices, Kazakh chief military prosecutor Yergali Merzadinov told journalists on Wednesday in Astana, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

“He confessed [that he killed his colleagues and a hunter], and denied the existence of accomplices,” the military prosecutor said.

Moreover, Merzadinov added that Chelakh tells the facts which ‘only a person who committed the crime can know’.

A Public Committee which will monitor the investigation into murder of 15 people on the Kazakh-Chinese border is being created in Kazakhstan, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported referring to the Kazakh National Press Club.

Moreover, a criminal case against the chief of the frontier Sary-Bokter Alexei Fomin was filed. Fomin was accused of deliberately concealing the fact of a lack of communication with border post Arkankergen and failing to establish the causes of lost communication and its restoration.
