Kazakhstan greatly contributes to UNESCO activitiesASTANA. May 30. KAZINFORM The Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev received UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova within the frame of the 4th World and Traditional Religions Leaders’ Congress in Astana.

During the meeting the sides discussed problems of cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNESCO. Nursultan Nazarbayev especially stressed that he laid special emphasis on interaction with that international organization.

“Since the first days of independence we have been actively cooperating with UNESCO. I personally knew all heads of your organization. UNESCO has always supported our initiatives, so I guess we can say that our cooperation has reached a pretty high level. UNESCO has played a big role in uniting research in the sphere of world culture. Your organization implements a special civilization mission. We recognize and support it. UNESCO’s participation in the forum is of paramount importance, it enhances prestige of the congress,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

In her turn, Ms Bokova emphasized that discussion of relevant religious and spiritual problems and the congress itself were an indispensible part of the global agenda.

“I would like to congratulate you on successful running of the congress. For us Kazakhstan has always been an important partner and my first official visit to Astana has coincided with the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s accession to UNESCO. Your country actively participates in the activity of the organization and greatly contributes to its development,” UNESCO Director General noted.
