President Nazarbayev receives ex-Canadian PM
ASTANA. May 29. KAZINFORM The Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has received former Prime Minister of Canada Jean Chr?tien who arrived in Astana to participate in the 4th World and Traditional Religions Leaders’ Congress.
According to the presidential press service, during the meeting the sides discussed the agenda of the upcoming congress and touched upon the problems of bilateral cooperation in the commercial and economic, investment, scientific and cultural spheres. President Nazarbayev pointed out that the World and Traditional Religions Leaders’ Congress had become a reputable platform for representatives of various religions.
“Your participation in the congress is of paramount importance. The Kazakh-Canadian commercial and economic ties strengthen from year to year. The volume of Canadian investments into Kazakhstan amounts to USD 5 billion. A lot of joint ventures, especially in agricultural sector, open in Kazakhstan,” Nursultan Nazarbayev noted.
In his turn, Jean Chretien stressed that it’s his sixth visit to Kazakhstan.
“I’ve come to Kazakhstan to take part in the congress and I believe that the dialogue between religions is crucial. Such meetings are necessary to ensure stability and peace within the country and to establish the friendly relations between the states. In my opinion, the World and Traditional Religions Leaders’ Congress is relevant amid sweeping globalization,” ex-Canadian Prime Minister said.
