New parliament to hold first meeting on January 20 – presidential decree

The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed the decree “On calling the first meeting of the 5th parliament of Kazakhstan”.
“To convene the first meeting of the 5th Parliament of Kazakhstan at 10 am on January 20, 2012 in Astana,” said the decree published at the presidential website on Wednesday.
The decree has been signed today with immediate effect.
An election to the Majilis (lower chamber of parliament) was held in Kazakhstan on January 15. Three out of the seven participating parties – Nur Otan, Ak Zhol and the Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan (CPPK) – won seats in the parliament.
Nur Otan will have 83 seats in the Majilis, Ak Zhol – 8, the CPPK – 7. The Majilis has 107 members, 98 of whom are elected through party lists and 9 are delegated by the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan.
