Astana’s EXPO-2017 Bid Campaign Continues in India
Nov 15. MFA
As part of Astana’s EXPO 2017 bid promotion campaign, Kazakhstan presented its stand at the India International Trade Exhibition IITF-2011 in New Delhi which opened on November 14.
Since its inception in 1980, the fair itself has evolved as a major event for the global business community and the IITF shows attract large number of participants every year. This year is not an exception as representatives of business communities from over 18 countries of the world are taking part in the event.
The fair provides a common platform for the manufacturers, traders, exporters and importers. Fair displays comprise a wide range of products and services. This year’s exhibition will be on view until November 27.
As part of the exhibition Kazakhstan’s ambassador to India Dulat Kuanyshev and director of external economic relations department of the foreign ministry Serik Amirov held a number of meetings with fair participants and unveiled plans for Astana to host the International specialized exhibition EXPO 2017 with a proposed theme “Energy of the Future”.
Last week the country’s delegation visited South Africa, where Kazakhstan once again underscored its intention to raise the issue of energy consumption to a global level. This intention is now becoming a national project, a national idea when all government bodies and public companies are jointly working to achieve the ultimate goal.
The Kazakh capital’s ambition to host an expo in 2017 is supported by the country’s growing economic potential, interesting culture, and strong leadership, a conclusion made by the International Exhibitions Bureau’s (BIE) Secretary General Vicente Gonz?lez Loscertales at the end of his visit to Kazakhstan last June.
Kazakhstan’s government understands that even though the country is rich in mineral resources this fact should not prevent it from ensuring a safer energy future.
After joining the BIE in 1997, Kazakhstan has participated in Expo 2004 in Hannover, Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan, Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain, and Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China. By the decision of an independent expert committee, among 104 participating states, Kazakhstan’s pavilion in Expo 2008 in Zaragoza was awarded with the third place. Kazakhstan will be also represented at the BIE Expositions in Yeosu, Korea in 2012 and in Milano, Italy in 2015.
The decision on the venue for the 2017 exhibition will be taken through a vote at BIE General Assembly in December 2012.
