Kazakhstan considers Azerbaijan 'key partner in the Caucasus region' - NazarbayevWe consider Azerbaijan key economic and strategic partner in the Caucasus region, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said during the talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev on Thursday.

The presidents signed the joint declaration between the two states, intergovernmental agreement on mutual allocation of land plots for building diplomatic offices in the two countries and intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of maritime traffic.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted great achievements in economy and politics of Azerbaijan. “Our countries have passed the years of independence with dignity,” he said.

Ilham Aliyev congratulated Kazakhstan on the 20th anniversary of independence and praised impressive progress in all spheres. “Kazakhstan’s success is seen in the appearance of your cities and new capital Astana.”

Though the volume of trade between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan amounts to 60 percent, the two presidents are not fully satisfied with this index. They believe that projects in transport, agriculture and trade fields should help fully realize the trade potential.

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have good prospects for cooperation in transport field – Nazarbayev

Our contacts in the fields of energy, oil transportation, use of the Caspian Sea as a transport artery for Kazakhstan to the Black Sea and into Europe are the most important matters of bilateral concern. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said it during the talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Thursday in Almaty.

Nazarbayev noted that despite the difficulties connected with Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict, Azerbaijan reached significant progress over the past 20 years.

“We are the Caspian Sea neighbors, and all problems of the Caspian Sea are common to us. We are firmly addressing the problems connected with its status. We have good prospects for cooperation in industrial and oil and gas spheres. Our experts can use the big experience of Azerbaijan in this field,” the President of Kazakhstan noted.

Nazarbayev also mentioned the opportunity to develop cooperation in transport sphere. “In the future Azerbaijan will become one of the most important transport arteries for Kazakhstan’s oil and other products. Construction of a new railroad from Turkey through Georgia and Azerbaijan to the Caspian Sea will make it possible to deliver Caucasian goods via Kazakhstan to China. This project promises great benefits for both parties,” he emphasized.

60 bilateral documents between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan form legal basis for cooperation

All the documents signed between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan prove that our cooperation develops dynamically and steadily, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said during the negotiations with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev on Thursday in Almaty.

“Our two countries have common roots; we belong to the Turkic world. We have similar language, culture and traditions. All these advantages should be used for our cooperation,” the Kazakh leader emphasized.

According to him, Azerbaijani Diaspora in Kazakhstan counts 130 thousand people. “This is a good bridge for our cooperation. The Azerbaijanis have contributed to the development of independent Kazakhstan and actively participate in all spheres of our society. Thus, there is a basis for cooperation,” Nazarbayev noted.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the two countries maintain regular contacts within the framework of international organizations as UN, OSCE, CICA. “We keep a common stance on the strengthening of the UN role in the issues of war and peace. We stand for the development of cooperation with the European Union. We are for continuation of mutually beneficial cooperation and integration in the CIS space,” he added.

“I think these talks will give a new impulse to our relations,” Nazarbayev concluded.

We appreciate Kazakhstan’s position in settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan Leader

“We are grateful to Kazakhstan’s position in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev constantly focuses on this problem and puts it forward at the significant meetings with the world leaders,” President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev told following the meeting with Kazakh Leader Nursultan Nazarbayev.

For the past seven years it has been the third visit of Azerbaijan President to Kazakhstan. “Such mutual contacts are clear example of what emphasis we lay on mutual relations,” President Aliyev said.
