Kashechkin to lead Astana Vuelta challenge

Kazakh rider Andrey Kashechkin will head up the Astana team’s challenge in the final major Tour race of the season, the Tour of Spain, which gets underway with a team time-trial on Saturday in Benidorm.
Giuseppe Martinelli eulogised about Kashechkin, who was third in the 2006 Vuelta before being found to have indulged in blood doping the following year which resulted in a year’s suspension.
“We will have a charismatic team leader in Kasheckin,” said Martinelli.
“We will also have Fredrik Kessiakoff (winner of the Tour of Austria) and Robert Kiserlovski.
“How the race pans out will decide which of the three of them will be best placed for a tilt at the overall win,” added Martinelli.
