N. Nazarbayev to address 15th St Petersburg int’l economic forum plenary sessionToday President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is expected to take part in the plenary sitting of the 15th St Petersburg International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg, our correspondent  reports.

This year the forum under the patronage of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev brought together 4,000 representatives of political and economic circles, scientists, public figures, media heads from around the world to debate the urgent issues the world community faces today.

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Spain Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and President of Finland Tarja Halonen are expected to take floor at the plenary session themed “Securing global economic growth”.

Future depends on understanding reasons and keys to global problems, Kazakh President

“The future of the whole world depends on perception of the reasons of the global problems and finding out their keys,” Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said addressing the plenary sitting of the 15th St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Much depends on whether a formula of the world development acceptable to all subjects of global economy and politics is found out. First of all, would any drastic changes take place in the world economic and currency systems? Secondly, how would these changes influence the majority of states and ordinary people? The future of the whole world depends on perception of the reasons of the global problems and finding out their solutions,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Per capita GDP in Kazakhstan to reach $15,000 by 2016

The per capita GDP in Kazakhstan will reach $15,000 by 2016, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev says.

“By 2016 Kazakhstan should enter the group of countries with high personal income levels. The per capita GDP should grow to $15,000,” Nazarbayev said at the Saint-Petersburg Economic Forum on Saturday.

The transcript of the president’s speech was circulated by his press office.

He reminded that in 2010 Kazakhstan had adopted a Strategic Development Plan until 2020, which defined the key areas to be modernized during the decade.

According to Nazarbayev, until 2015 the country plans to implement around 500 projects with a total cost of about $80 billion and create 200,000 new permanent jobs.

“We will make every effort to make Kazakhstan a regional trade, logistics and business hub as well as a Central Asian center of knowledge.

This will enhance economic cooperation between countries and improve living standards in our country and the whole region,” he said.

Russia, Kazakhstan could make significant investment in Belarus – Nazarbayev

Kazakhstan and Russia could support Belarus in overcoming the crisis by participating in the privatization of a number of Belarusian enterprises, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

“Kazakhstan and Russia could support Belarus, of course, given an adequate response to us. We could invest in the modernization and privatization of major Belarusian enterprises giving Belarus significant funds to deal with its current problems,” Nazarbayev said at the Saint-Petersburg Economic Forum on Saturday.

According to Nazarbayev, individual countries, including the participants of the Customs Union, cannot get over global economic challenges without upheavals.

Nazarbayev also noted the positive effect of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on the Kazakhstani economy. “In the year that the Customs Union has been in existence, our trade volume with our partners has grown by 40%, including the trade volume between Russia and Kazakhstan by 28%,” he said.

President of Kazakhstan calls for global energy organization

Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev voices his initiative to establish a unified global energy organization.

“The time has come for a global energy organization to coordinate the use of energy resources,” he said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Saturday.

Such organization must be monitoring and regulating energy security issues. “This will allow for the use of any type of energy, including the nuclear energy, which we can’t live without, avoiding problems and panic,” he said.

Kazakhstan’s President said that international energy agencies, care only for the interests of energy-importing countries when redistributing oil and gas resources.

“By developing a joint approach to the sustainable use of energy, the international community will pave the way to a global economic security,” said Kazakh President.
