Astana Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov said it at the ‘Astana Invest 2011’ forum.

‘The amount of gross city product of the capital has increased by more than 50 times over the last decade. The share of the capital in the GDP of the country has increased from 1.5 percent to 10 percent. The amount of industrial production has increased by over 7 times, certainly, it is in tight connection with such an economic part as investment that has also increased by 30 times over the decade. It is the demonstration of the competitiveness of our city and the value it presents,’ I. Tasmagambetov said. ‘Definitely, the global crisis hampered the work of economic mechanism of our city as well but it did not change the positive dynamics of Astana development,’ the Mayor added.

Astana Mayor invites investors to participate in USD 800 mln project

“We invite the investors to take part in the project on construction of two power generating units worth USD 800 mln,” Astana Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov told today during “Astana Invest 2011” forum.

“The Astana energy security is of great importance for us. That’s why we have started construction of the first phase of the new energy source, heat power plant 3. The second phase envisages construction of two power generating units to the amount of USD 800 mln. We invite the investors to participate in its implementation. We believe, it is a good investment platform that offers excellent opportunities,” the Mayor added.

“Astana Innovation” separate structure established in Astana – Tasmagambetov

A separate structure “Astana Innovation” is being created in Astana for ensuring more favorable conditions for innovations introduction. Astana Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov has announced it at the IV Astana Economic Forum.

“It is an innovative hub, which will be established on the model of the leading world centers in Boston (the U.S.A.) and Finland. It includes business incubation, venture financing and technology transfer,” I.Tasmagambetov noted.

According to him, in Astana it is planned to implement a number of projects on innovative production output.

Mayor Tasmagambetov calls on foreign business to invest in Astana

During the IV Astana Economic Forum Mayor of Astana Imangali Tasmagambetov called on the international business community for active investing in the economy of the Kazakhstan’s capital.

He noted that Astana had big experience in modern town planning. Almost 40% of all construction works in the country are held in Astana. “Undoubtedly, this practice makes Astana a place of technological generation of building materials, including extra strong glass components, non-metallic mineral products and plastic products,” Tasmagambetov said.

The mayor also told investors on a special economic zone of Astana, which may be very attractive for investment projects due to a favorable tax regime.

Kazakhstan plans to bring direct foreign investments up to 13%-14% of GDP

Kazakhstan is planning to increase direct foreign investments up to 13-14% of the GDP in 2015, said the head of the investment committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies Asylhan Serikov.

“As part of the program on investments, special economic zones and export promotion the ratio of foreign direct investment to GDP will be increased by five percentage points. At present, this level is maintained at 8%-9% of GDP,” he said in Astana on Wednesday at Astana Invest 2011.

According to the Industry Ministry, for the nine months of 2010 Kazakhstan raised about $13.1 billion of foreign direct investments, including $1.5 billion in non-resource sectors.

Dozen agreements totaling $2.5 bln inked at Astana Invest-2011 Forum

A dozen of agreements has been signed upon the results of Astana Invest-2011 Forum.

Astana Akimat and Li Sha International Group signed memorandum of cooperation on construction of Thermal Power Plant-3 (2nd stage) In Astana.

The University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis and Nazarbayev Union signed memorandum of cooperation.

Astana Akimat and Issmat Company signed memorandum of cooperation on attraction of foreign investments.

The companies Gabdin Pipe and LiSha signed agreement on construction of a steel pipe plant.

The total sum of the agreements exceeds USD 2.5 billion.
