Events in Japan not to have impact on Kazakh economy - National Bank ChairmanEvents in Japan will not have direct negative impact on the development of our economy, Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Grigory Marchenko said at a press conference in Almaty on Wednesday.

“Japanese companies have never been our major investors. Most of them, like German companies, are exporters, not investors. That’s why Japan never had such a large stake in Kazakhstan’s foreign trade as Russia, China and EU countries have,” Marchenko noted.

He noted that there was no final or even a rough estimate of the events in Japan. “It is difficult to assess the consequences of a nuclear disaster. They can develop both positively and negatively. The only thing I can say, the Japanese people have shown dignity while dealing with the tragedy, and I look forward to a positive scenario,” Marchenko resumed.
