Ambassador Utembayev met with NATO Sec Gen’s Special Representative for South Caucasus and Central Asia

Head of Kazakhstan’s Mission to NATO Yerik Utembayev met with NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
The Kazakh diplomat informed of the Kazakh President’s 2011 annual Address to the Nation. He touched upon the international aspects of this document regarding the bilateral cooperation with NATO. Particularly, the parties discussed the initiative of the Kazakh Leader on holding Afghanistan Donor Conference in Almaty and Kazakhstan’s obligations taken during the OSCE chairmanship on further settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.
The sides also considered the current status and prospects of development of relations between Kazakhstan and NATO. James Appathurai praised the results of Kazakhstan’s OSCE chairmanship and noted Kazakhstan’s significant role in Central Asian region and in the issues of stabilization of the Afghan situation.
Besides, Mr. Appathurai noted good dynamics of promotion of joint agreements with Kazakhstan on a wide range of topical issues concerning global and regional security. He stressed that NATO-Kazakhstan relations continued to demonstrate stable and dynamic development.
NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative expressed intention to visit Kazakhstan in the near future.
