Kazakh president approves amendments to tax laws

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed the Law on Amendments to Some Laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan Relating to Taxation, the president’s press office said in a Friday statement.
The statement says that the amendments are to make the gold industry more attractive in terms of investments, to change the rates of the corporate income tax, the mineral extraction tax, the vehicle tax and the duty on tobacco products, and to set the payment rates for the use of radio frequencies in 3G and 4G networks.
In accordance with the amendments, the duty on tobacco products will be annually growing 25% in 2011-2013. Currently, the duty is at 800 tenge per 1,000 cigarettes.
Besides, the new law states that the mobile operators are to pay 2,200 monthly specified rates (MSR, one MSR equals 1,413 tenge, current FOREX rate is 147.37/$1) to the budget for the use of the radio frequencies in 3G and 4G networks.
