“According to M. On Monday Mukhtar Aliev applied to the Embassy of the RK in the Republic of Austria with the pleading to help him return to his home country. This fact was communicated today by Ilyas Omarov, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in the course of the briefing, says Kazinform.

According to I. Omarov, on May 4, at 9 AM, Mukhtar Aliev applied to the Consular Section of the Embassy of the RK in Vienna with the pleading to render him assistance in order for him to depart for his home country.

“In the course of the conversation with Erzhan Kazykhanov, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, M. Aliev said that he came to Austria in order to get a medical examination and a heart surgery”, I. Omarov noted.

“According to M. Aliev’s declaration, his son, Rakhat Aliev, has been doing his best to prevent him from returning to his home country since October 2008, by taking away all his documents: the passport, the credit card, the cell phone, the cash money, and the personal possessions. M. Aliev said that on May 4 this year, at 4 AM, he climbed the fence of the mansion where he was staying, without being seen by the security guards, and arrived to the embassy. Two weeks before, he secretly left the house as well, and, coming to the city police department, submitted a written declaration, but there was no positive outcome”, noted the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. “M. Aliev said that he tried many times to find a peaceful solution for the issue of his departure to Kazakhstan, however, those attempts were unsuccessful. That is why he had to go on hunger strike seven times”.

According to I. Omarov, M. Aliev’s behavior at the Embassy was appropriate; he answered the questions succinctly and expertly. Also, a heart surgeon was invited to the premises of the Kazakh diplomatic mission in Vienna, in order to make an ECG reading and to examine M. Aliev’s physical condition.

“Presently, M. Aliev is staying at a specially prepared guest room at the Embassy. He is provided with meals”, the spokesman of the MFA of the RK notified.

As noted by I. Omarov, for the time of M. Aliev’s stay at the Embassy premises he was provided with round-the-clock physical security guarding for the evening and night time by efforts of the employees of the foreign mission; moreover, a mobile patrol of the Vienna police was solicited to make regular tours of the Embassy premises.

“The diplomatic officials of Kazakhstan in Vienna take all the measures necessary to ensure the safe return of M. Aliev, a citizen of the RK, to his home country”, the spokesman of the foreign department concluded.
