Kazakhstan recognizes OPEC's role in ensuring oil market stability: K.MassimovKazakhstan recognizes the role of the OPEC in ensuring the stability of the oil market. Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov has made it public today at the opening of the V Eurasian Forum KAZENERGY-2010.

“Kazakhstan recognizes the importance of the OPEC role in ensuring the stability of the oil market as well as the significance of cooperation between producing and consuming countries, members and non-members of the Organization, such as Kazakhstan”, K.Massimov said.

The Head of the Kazakh Government also noted that the Forum was held amid great challenges in the energy sector since the recent crisis has forced to search for new tendencies in oil and gas spheres.

Kazakhstan focuses on three components in the energy sector. They are safety, security and stability. Kazakh Premier Karim Massimov said it at the opening of the 5th ‘KAZENERGY’ Eurasian Forum in Astana.

The head of the Government noted that the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico threw a lot of doubts over the whole oil and gas sector. New trends on ensuring security should be developed. ‘It is the issue of risk of this sector which plays an important role in short and long term prospects. Besides, it adds the responsibilities for the industrial sector. Thus it is needed to understand that no government can control over such challenges alone’, K. Massimov emphasized.

The Premier noted that those three components Kazakhstan focused on were the most important ones.

Kazakhstan to prevent any disasters in Caspian Sea – PM

Kazakhstan will prevent any disasters in the Caspian Sea. Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov has said it today at the opening of the 5th ‘KAZENERGY’ Eurasian Forum in Astana.

‘We should consider the consequences of the tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico and take all measures to prevent likewise accident in the Caspian Sea’, K. Massimov noted.

According to him, Kazakhstan is aimed at ensuring environmental protection and works in accordance with the highest standards. K. Massimov noted that the Government of Kazakhstan developed a series of measures on reducing the risk from offshore drilling. ‘The Ministries of Oil and Gas and Environmental Protection established a working group for ensuring security of offshore drilling and monitoring the situation’, the Kazakh Premier added.

K. Massimov also noted that Kazakhstan intended to sign the intergovernmental protocol on security of maritime production with the Caspian Sea neighboring countries.
